Expressive Minimalism: Five fashion strategies worth a try

In the world of streetstyle during fashion weeks, urban looks take on a look as sophisticated as the ones we see on the catwalks. Although guests at fashion shows in New York and London often favour eclectic stylisations, among the key trends is what we call “expressive minimalism” – a kind of interpretation of the “quiet luxury” trend with the addition of bright accents. The essence of this stylistic technique is to fill simple silhouettes with unexpected colour shades, clothes with non-standard cut and interesting accessories – and sometimes all of the above.

Cosiness in the look

The mesmerising Lauren Santo Domingo opted for a classic coat with a fitted scarf to match. This outerwear looks unique and eye-catching. Plus, Santo Domingo expertly paired her coat with knee-length leather boots and black gloves, giving her look a sophisticated and cosy feel with an undertone of romance.

Playing with shades of grey

In this look, the magic is in the little things. Vogue’s Executive Fashion Director Lisa Aiken points out a classic grey suit, white t-shirt and grey jumper, elegantly buttoned at the shoulders and adorned with a silver brooch. Sculptural silver bracelets add a finishing touch to the look, matching all elements of the outfit.

Unrivalled classics

Classic trousers perfectly harmonise with a sculptural shirt, creating an interesting but not too fancy look. Pay attention to the accessory of a dark shade, completing the image, but the shade is not black, but burgundy.

Natural tenderness of pastel shades

A voluminous jumper with a high neck and wide trousers create a perfect silhouette, which is easily draped and fluttered while moving, giving the outfit a sense of lightness. The delicacy of the look is emphasised by the soft pink hue of the JW Anderson jumper.

Experimenting with shapes and lines

Black clothing can be far from boring if you combine different textures and volumes. A utilitarian jacket combined with a feminine skirt with ruffles creates an interesting play of contrasts. High socks combined with Mary-Jane shoes and a bright red bag add a certain originality and elegance to the image.
